I know it’s a stupid, stupid thing to start complaining about. But I feel like venting, and if this scrappy little blog could possibly someday influence and implement change, I’m going to attempt it. The one specific thing I would like to complain about is one of the gym mechanics. But before I dive in, I do wanna give a little background on me as a player.
I played it I think a year after it was popular. Like right after they had implemented the no driving thing, where your steps don’t count and you can’t access gyms or pokestops after you’ve reached a certain speed. I, of course understand why they added it in(too many idiots in car crashes). But this was a point where I was still riding school buses in the morning and afternoon. I guarantee I would probably be level 30 if I was able to do stuff while riding.
This was also still a time where gyms sucked to deal with and it was harder to level up as a trainer. It was hard to maintain interest in the game the way it was. Which is probably why I took an almost 3 year break from it. As a level 20, there became already a fairly steep climb if I wanted to get anywhere with the game.
The past year in a half though, guys from our brother fraternity and the girls in my sorority fucking loved Pokemon Go and even have a groupchat with a good number of people that went around campus nearly daily. To be fair, because it is a college campus, there are a really good number of gyms and pokestops around, and a lot of Raid bosses with them.
During that time, I didn’t really have space on my phone. I’ve had the same crappy Android phone that my dad bought after my mother died. And with our years pledging, we had to get so many apps just to communicate within our own pledgeclass. And then even more stuff, once we became active.
I’m telling you all of this because my friend had recently given me his IPhone S because he got a new phone. I felt so much more power having both phones. One of the things I immediately did was re-downloading Pokemon Go. I had in the past 2 months, managed to gain 3 levels without doing much. With the Stay at home order, I’m not out there doing the most. Atleast not like some people I know.
Sorry to drag the post out, I just felt like the information is important. The problem I have with Pokemon Go right now, is how you obtain Pokecoins. I had my Vaporeon sitting in a gym alone for a week and a half. In none of that time did I have any other gyms with my pokemon in them.
I believe you get a Pokecoin for every 10 minutes a pokemon holds up in a gym. The daily limit for pokecoins would be 50 coins. That may sound fine, but it doesn’t stack. At the tail end of my vaporeon’s run, I had put my taurus in a gym at night. The next morning I wake up to taurus coming back and giving me 50 coins, and Vaporeon coming back with nothing. This is so incredibly agitating. Because not only would they limit the number of coins per day, but they limit it for all of your collective pokemon. That is BULLSHIT!
I can say with good confidence that this is probably an anti cheating measure. There to prevent certain players from getting too much I guess? There are soooooo many better lanes to go with that though. They could have A pokebank with your total earned coins, and then daily, you can check it and get your daily 50 coins. That’s an incentive to play daily along with achieving the same effect. It may somehow not be possible for them to do that. But they definitely need to do something. I feel like everytime I go out toplay I run out of balls so quickly. It takes forever for my pokemon to actually get kicked out of a gym. So that’s not making much money. You can’t even withdraw your pokemon from the gyms. Even with the 3 years worth of changes it’s still a steep curve at this point.
I’m not saying that it’s a horible game. I still think gyms and their whole Pokecoin concept needs to be re-reworked. I don’t have the amount of pokestopsor gyms near me that could justify how ridiculous playing this game can end up being.
In other complaints. We are under fucking quarantine. Why are they only giving us three remote raid passes. We should honestly just get a permanent daily remote raid pass until the crisis is over. Because honestly, with having caught the 90 repetitive pokemon that I can only seem to catch in this area(only 6 are actually useful), I don’t really have much “Motivation” to be going out and playing this damn game.
Sure if you are driving from place to place playing, that’s a little bit different. But you still lose interest after a while. The battle league does keep it somewhat interesting. But that’s only because they nicked off the walking requirement for it. I probably wouldn’t have played it even for that long if there was still a walking requirement. Probably like the one saving grace I can think of with this game.
It feels like Pokemon Go hits a point where it stops being fun and ends up being Grindy. It’s probably alot more fun and alot easier with friends. But they also have to be on the same team as you if you want to fight gym battles together. Raids maybe fun aswell. But even the function of friends is a little wonky. I know I have atleast 30 friends playing Pokemon Go religiously to this day. So why has their facebook function only allowed me to befriend a list of of maybe 3 of them. Is there a limit? IDEK. It’s just a really exhausting system.
Raids are only good if you have a group of like 4. Going at the same time as a good raid. Team Rocket battles are new, but still fairly repetitive. And also not worth getting off my ass to get to them. Gyms only are worth it if your pokemon don’t get kicked out an hour after placing them… Or you know a year after putting it in. Pokestops don’t give you enough and are only decent when you can get to 30 in a 1 mile radius of you.
Even just catching a pokemon, like you know, the first 50 sumthin eevees might’ve been special, but then, I ran out of space in my bag. I am definitely taking a break from it right now in favor of other irritating games.
